Code Enforcement

Planning Board

The Planning Board is responsible for reviewing and approving Building Permits, Site Plan Permits, Subdivision Permits, and other land use ordinances. The board is also responsible for updating land use and related ordinances as prescribed by changes accepted by the town through adopted articles at town meetings to include comprehensive plans, separate ordinance request (such as the flood plain management ordinance), and other articles as proposed and approved. All development request forms, permits and related documentation are available at the town office.

Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) & Health Officer

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for the administering and enforcement of all Town ordinances, as well as adopted codes relating to building construction within the Town of Solon.

It is recommended that you contact the Code Enforcement Officer prior to the start of new construction to inquire as to which permits will be applicable to your operation. Permits can be obtained from the Code Enforcement Officer.

Local Plumbing Inspector

If plumbing is required, you must obtain appropriate permits from the Licensed Plumbing Inspector. Plumbing inspectors shall inspect all plumbing for which permits are granted, within their respective municipalities, to ensure compliance with state rules and municipal ordinances and investigate all construction or work covered by those rules and ordinances.

Public Works (Highway Dept. & Transfer Station)

The mission of the Public Works Department is to improve the quality of life for citizens by maintaining Solon’s infrastructure, while protecting it natural resources. Solon Public Works provides for year round maintenance of town roads and facilities. The Department also facilitates Solon’s Transfer Station located on the River Road (1.5 miles from Rt. 201). Our employees are committed to meeting the needs of the Town of Solon while preparing for its future.

Fire Department

The Solon Fire Department is made up of trained community volunteers. The facility is not manned. To join the department or to request use of the meeting space, please contact Chief Rollins for more information.

Recreation

The Solon Community Recreation Committee is dedicated to providing members of our community the opportunity to participate in activities that will enhance their well being through recreation. Through the dedication of volunteers and staff we endeavor to provide quality programs to the citizens of Solon. The Committee meets periodically with the Directors to review and discuss issues relevant to programming, facilities, and budgeting priorities. This is a five member Committee serving a three year term. The Committee meets on an as-need basis. Volunteers for coaching and fundraising are always welcome!
